Day 4: ran out of gas on Interstate 10

We're traveling along the vast desert land of west Texas enjoying the interesting rock formations having apple slices and cheese and grapes for lunch on the road when I glanced down to see the gas gauge nearly on empty.  No prospects of a gas station in the near future.  But when it chugged to a stop, Vernon used the 2 gallons or so of gas he had in a can in the back of the truck. We barely made it to the "Road Ranger" gas station 10 miles after the low fuel alarm came on a second time.  It didn't help that western Texas -- from San Antonio (where we started from this morning) to Ft. Stockton gradually increases in elevation by nearly 1/2 mile, so we were going up hill most of the time with very little down hill grades.  It was pretty tense for a while!

Vernon was fascinated with the rock formations and colors

We made it to the "Road Ranger" gas station to fill up!!  Thank you, Lord!

A common sight in Texas:  oil pumps
