Today we made it to New Mexico. A little RV campground in Vado, NM. We set up camp and took the hour drive northeast to White Sands National Monument. This was a highlight of the trip. Miles of white sand dunes, some even without any vegetation. We were allowed to play on the ones with no vegetation:)
I was truly struck by the beauty of the textures -- ripples and waves and shadows of the bright white dunes. I would love to experience this remarkable area at night during a full moon, or as the sun sets. Here are a few pix of today's journey:

Border patrol check point near El Paso, Texas |
This was the second day in a row that we were directed into a border patrol check point. They mostly asked us if we were U.S. citizens. Yesterday, outside Big Bend park, they asked us if we saw anyone walking near the road. They had a drug sniffing dog (looked like a small doberman pinscher).

A patient border patrol officer waiting to ask us a couple of questions and wish us a nice day |

I'm 'petting' the little white mouse that lives in the white dunes.

2 women ahead of us on the boardwalk between the dunes. |

Amazing textures and patterns in the sand |

Having fun on the dunes. |
