Day 5: side (south) trip to Big Bend National Park

Took the day off our westward trek to see Big Bend National Park.  It was a lot of driving but it was worth it.  Vernon loved the 'amazing mountains' in the park.  We saw 4 or 5 roadrunners scampering across the road, some golden eagles, and a funny looking coyote.  Lots and lots of yucca plants and scrubby shrubs, but the mountains!  They were beautiful.  See a few pictures:

Early morning layer of fog above the mountain with the sun shining through the gap in mountains

Lots of beautiful, amazing mountains
For some reason, Vernon positioned me between the "mule ear" peaks at the 'Mule Ear Spring Trail outlook

At the Rio Grande River looking at a 1500 ft cliff (across the river is Mexico!)

At Santa Elena Canyon a highlight of Big Bend

Vernon got a big laugh from that.
No, but we've been through 5 border patrol checkpoints so far (3/8)
